This weekend, Tom Preston and Team Hippo will be taking on the Wales Rally GB National. In the legendary woods and historic views of North Wales, 82 cars will be competing to be the fastest on these famous rally stages.
As part of the Carlisle-based CA1 Sport rally team, Tom Preston and co-driver, Carl Williamson are aiming for a podium finish, starting as seeded car 5. This year’s National is taking place on a gravel surface and the team has been practicing and testing the Fabia R5 this past weekend in the hope for dry conditions and the fastest possible times.
The National Rally is a three-day event starting Friday and finishing Sunday. The National’s itinerary has single runs through all 12 times stages, offering 107 miles on some of the World’s most challenging forest tracks. It shadows the WRC route which has 22 special stages and covers 206 competitive miles.
On Friday, the Nationals begin with the legendary tests of Sweet Lamb, Myherin and Hafren. This is special this year as the cars will run in the reverse direction to previous years. Moving onto Saturday, the drivers will tackle to classic forest stages of Pantperthog, Dyfi, Gartheiniog and Aberhirnant. Finally on the Sunday, they will race through the Clocaenog, Alwen and the Brenig ‘Power Stage’.
We wish them good luck for that podium finish.
